Mistfall Hunter Withered Knight Build
Run a launch-version Withered Knight Greatsword build with exact skills, Wither talents, affix priorities, combat rotation, and team swaps.
The Mistfall Hunter Withered Knight build to start with at launch is the Greatsword Break DPS preset: Parry, Radiant Retribution, and Breakthrough Charge with the Crime-centered Wither talent package. It rewards measured pressure and repeated Execute opportunities, but a missed parry or charge can leave the class committed with no quick exit.
Quick build
| Slot | Launch recommendation | Why it is here |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon stance | Greatsword | Enables the full skill bar and repeatable Wither/Execute pressure |
| Core skills | Parry, Radiant Retribution, Breakthrough Charge | Defensive punish, conversion, and gap closing |
| Talents | Greatsword Specialization, Crime, Bad Karma, Legacy | Extra skill access, retained Wither, linked debuffs, and sustain |
| Gear target | Mercy with Rosen Oath armor as a long-term reference | Matches the documented Legendary preset |
| Affix order | Tenacious/Stoic or Resilience, then Valor/Wrath, then Burst | Survive commitment, maintain pressure, improve the punish window |
| Best fit | Trio frontline, melee PvP, and sustained PvE | Wither and control become more valuable over a planned exchange |

Official: Steam confirms active skills, talent trees, gem affixes, and two weapon stances per class. Community-tested: current game-data and class references agree on Greatsword, Wither, Execute pressure, and the high-risk parry rhythm. Editorial: the rotation, affix order, engagement limits, and alternatives below explain how to make that package repeatable.
Build goal and stance choice
Greatsword Break is a pressure loop, not a single all-in. Apply Wither through normal contact, punish a predictable response with Parry, use the resulting opening to convert, and preserve Wither's value through Crime rather than rebuilding from zero. The class wants to stay close, but it should not follow a mobile opponent through every doorway or open lane.
The Polearm and Shield stance is the team-defense alternative. It offers spear and shield packages such as Rainbow Piercer, Spear Barrage, Javelin Thrust, Intervene, and Breaker Shield Bash in documented presets. Choose it when the squad needs peel, safer reach, or protection more than another Greatsword finisher. Greatsword Specialization explicitly changes skill-slot availability between stances, so do not treat the swap as cosmetic.
Core skills and pressure rules
Parry
Parry is strongest against a committed, readable action. Use spacing and basic attacks to make the enemy reveal a pattern before betting the exchange. A missed parry is a vulnerability window, so avoid pressing it simply because the target entered melee range. In a team, parry the action that threatens the shared position, not a harmless hit away from the fight.
Breakthrough Charge
Breakthrough Charge closes a gap after the target spends movement or is controlled. Aim its endpoint near cover or allied follow-up. A maximum-distance charge across an open lane is easy to read and difficult to undo. In PvE, use it to enter an organized pack or return after a mechanic rather than chase one minor enemy.
Radiant Retribution and Execute pressure
Use Radiant Retribution in the conversion window created by a charge, parry, or teammate control. Keep applying Wither through the normal Greatsword sequence, then use Execute when it creates a meaningful finish or forces a defensive response. Crime's documented behavior preserves and extends Wither at a tradeoff, enabling another cycle instead of making every Execute a terminal button.
Talent priority
- Greatsword Specialization unlocks the complete Greatsword skill structure and defines the selected stance.
- Crime preserves the Wither state through Execute and forms the core repeat-pressure identity.
- Bad Karma adds linked debuff stages while Wither persists, rewarding the extended cycle.
- Legacy adds recovery when Wither-affected enemies die, improving sustain in the situations where the build completes its work.
This is a functional priority, not an exact damage ranking. Follow the in-game graph and re-evaluate if a patch changes prerequisites or the Wither/Execute tradeoff.
Gear, gems, and affix priorities
The Legendary reference uses Mercy and Rosen Oath armor. Treat it as a target set, not the minimum viable build. Withered Knight's most important early upgrade is a kit whose cost still allows you to practice parry and engagement timing after a loss.
Prioritize Tenacious, Stoic, or Resilience while learning because the build must survive committed melee contact. Add Valor or Wrath after the approach and parry loop is reliable. Burst can support the punish window, but it should not replace enough durability to reach that window. Against ranged teams, consider movement or control-resistance value before another theoretical damage increase.
Combat loop and rotation
- Approach through cover and use Greatsword reach to test the opponent's first response.
- Apply Wither through safe contact without spending every cooldown.
- Parry a committed attack, or Breakthrough Charge after movement/control creates a real opening.
- Convert with Radiant Retribution and continued Greatsword pressure.
- Use Execute when it threatens a finish; Crime keeps the Wither cycle alive for the next exchange.
- Continue only while the target remains contained and your defensive answer exists. Reset when the opponent reaches open kiting space.
In PvE, spread attention across enemies that can feed Legacy recovery rather than tunneling through a boss mechanic. In PvP, the threat of Parry often creates more value than an early failed attempt.
Alternatives and mode adjustments
Solo: shorten commitments and add durability. Use terrain to approach ranged hunters and abandon a chase that reaches open ground. Legacy sustain is useful after successful kills, but it does not protect a failed entry before anything dies.
Team/trio: let allies create the first control or line-of-sight pressure, then charge the priority target. Wither and linked debuffs help a coordinated focus. Switch to Polearm and Shield if the group repeatedly loses its backline while you chase a finish.
PvE: the Break package remains strong for sustained encounters, while a Wither PvE variant can use Parry, Radiant Retribution, and Withering Mark. Prioritize mechanics and grouped value over forcing Execute at the first possible moment.
PvP: patient opponents will bait Parry, while Blackarrow and Sorcerer punish open approaches. Walk them toward cover, make the first dodge meaningful, and charge after the escape rather than before it. Against Shadowstrix, keep the parry threat for the real burst sequence.
Counters and common mistakes
Open terrain, repeated kiting, parry bait, and coordinated peel counter the build. Common mistakes are charging from maximum distance, parrying the first harmless attack, executing without a follow-up plan, ignoring the Greatsword skill-slot tradeoff, and chasing beyond allied pressure. Another mistake is confusing durability with safety: Withered Knight survives committed exchanges better than some melee classes, but it still needs an exit after a missed read.
